Site-Formed & Made to Order

Materials formed on site from a buildup, or cut and made to order by a trade, rather than supplied as an enumerated product against a declared unit: cob, rammed earth, thatch, dry stone, flint, rubble stone, limecrete, hemp-lime, green oak, zellige, tadelakt, stone slate, reclaimed brick and timber. Almost none has a manufacturer, so for most of them no Environmental Product Declaration exists or can exist — an EPD is issued by a manufacturer against a declared unit.

Each record states how it is made, where it comes from, who can build it, what happens to it at end of life, and what a specifier has to resolve first: certification, fire, warranty, insurance and trade availability. Being in this collection says nothing about carbon. Lime is calcined at around 900 °C, zellige is kiln-fired, cement-stabilised rammed earth is close to concrete, and where a figure is genuinely held it is shown with its source and boundary.
