Reclaimed Timber Floor

Floorboards salvaged from existing buildings, de-nailed, kiln-dried where needed and re-machined to a consistent profile. Character marks and colour variation are carried through.

Carbon and evidence

How This Is Made

An Environmental Product Declaration is issued by a manufacturer against a declared unit. This record has neither, so it states sourced facts about process and provenance instead of a carbon figure.

No published figure held

Reclaimed boards have been relaid for as long as buildings have been taken down

Process

Feedstock

Reclaimed

Existing floorboards and structural timber recut as flooring

Process heat

Low temperature

Binder

Mechanical

Fabrication

Workshop-made

Sourcing: yard-dependent; ask where the stock actually came from

Who Builds It

Trained contractor

Limited UK availability

Moisture content on delivery is the failure mode — reclaimed stock stored in an unheated yard will shrink after laying if it is not conditioned first

End Of Life

Demountable

Secret-nailed or screwed boards lift and relay again; a glued installation does not

Maintenance: Oiled or waxed and refinished in place; a solid board takes several sandings over its life

Specification Risk

What a specifier has to resolve before this can be built.

Certification
No EN 13489/13629 declaration; graded by the yard, not to a published standard
Fire
Combustible; reaction-to-fire class is untested on reclaimed stock
Warranty
Supplier warranty on grade and quantity only
Insurance
Not normally an issue
Supply
Finite and non-repeatable. Secure the whole quantity, plus wastage, in one lot

Read This Honestly

  • No declaration is held for this stock. An EPD covering recovery, processing and transport is possible in principle for a reclamation supplier — Reclaimed Brick Company published one for reclaimed brick in 2025 — so this is evidence not yet held, not evidence that cannot exist.
  • Some boards are kiln-dried before machining, which is a real energy input; this record does not claim zero processing.
  • Confirm any historic preservative or paint treatment before specifying for an interior.

Design & Specification Notes

Floorboards salvaged from existing buildings, de-nailed, kiln-dried where needed and re-machined to a consistent profile.

Typical Uses

  • Primary flooring
  • High-traffic circulation
  • Work areas

Key Performance

Hard-wearing surface for high footfall.

Specification Actions

  • Provide FSC or PEFC chain-of-custody proof (and origin details if reclaimed).
  • Confirm treatment for pests/rot is non-toxic
  • Specify refinishing rather than replacement where possible

Indicative Health & Indoor Air

low Risk
  • lead-paint
  • treatments

Test for lead paint or historic treatments on reclaimed material. Once verified clean, excellent indoor air quality.
