Eco-Brick

A 65 mm deep ceramic facing-brick system that uses less clay and mortar than a standard English-format brick while retaining conventional bricklaying techniques, durability and strength. The slimmer leaf can provide additional cavity space for insulation or reduce the overall wall footprint.

No declaration yet

Wienerberger has not published an EPD or a quantified carbon figure for this product, so nothing on this card is numerical. The guidance below is qualitative — drawn from the product record and curated category knowledge — for early design discussion, not for figures.

Checked 2026-08-06: there is still no published Eco-brick EPD. Wienerberger's brick EPD download list holds a summary document, ten UK works declarations (HUB-4851–4860), and Netherlands and Belgium declarations — no Eco-brick among them. Where it is made, from the Eco-brick brochure's own "Production factory" column: Warnham Red, Chartham Multi and Red Orange Blend at Warnham (West Sussex); Pampas, Haywood Red, Jado Red, Pelham Antique and Muria Yellow at Lanaken, Belgium. The brochure footnote states "All measurements are based on Eco-bricks produced in our Warnham factory". Warnham's HUB-4860 is not attached here because that declaration covers Warnham's 2021 standard brick production. Eco-brick is a 36% slimmer profile claiming a 31% upfront embodied-carbon reduction from less material and less firing energy per brick. Per tonne those are different products off different firing schedules, so borrowing the works figure would produce a plausible wrong number rather than an approximation. Also considered and set aside: UK_EPD_UK_Clay_Brick_202402.pdf on the same site is the Brick Development Association's industry-average clay brick EPD (BREG EN EPD 000002), EN 15804+A1, and it expired on 18 February 2024.

Next step: request a current product EPD or manufacturer carbon declaration.

What's missing (2)
  • No current product EPD is recorded.
  • No quantified carbon result is recorded.

Service Life — the B4 Replacement Input

100 years · basis not recorded

≈1 installation over a 60-year building study period.

B4 (replacement) follows the building, not the product: an assessor multiplies replacement cycles by project quantities. This record supplies the service life and does not compute B4.

A 65 mm deep ceramic facing-brick system that uses less clay and mortar than a standard English-format brick while retaining conventional bricklaying techniques, durability and strength.

Typical Uses

  • Facade cladding
  • Weather protection
  • External accents

Key Performance

Weather-resistant finish for facade exposure.

Specification Actions

  • Request a current product-specific EPD where available.
  • Calculate transport distances for primary materials.
  • Document material reuse or reclaimed content percentages.

Indicative Health & Indoor Air

low Risk

Inert fired-clay masonry product in service. Cutting can generate respirable crystalline-silica dust; use appropriate controls.
