Kvillsfors Side-Hinged Window, Alu-Clad + ORAÉ
The opening version of the Kvillsfors window — side-hinged, inward opening, with a secondary sash — in the same alu-clad timber construction with ORAÉ reduced-carbon glass. More frame, more hardware and a second sash put its declared production carbon at 79.9 kgCO2e per reference window against 50.0 for the fixed light: openability costs roughly 60% more carbon, which is a real argument for fixing every light that does not actually need to open.

Carbon and evidence
Product Evidence
Evidence currently held for the NorDan product record.
Recorded Carbon Result
A1–A3 GWP-total for one 1.23 × 1.48 m reference window (116 fossil less 36 biogenic held in the timber frame). Not comparable per-m² with curtain walling — window EPDs declare per piece. The use stage matters here: declared B2 maintenance adds +35.7 kgCO2e over the 60-year life.
Indicator: GWP-total
A1–A3 covers raw-material supply, transport to manufacture and manufacturing. It is product-stage information, not a whole-life result.

Service Life — the B4 Replacement Input
60 years · EPD reference service life
The declared functional unit carries a 60-year expected service life; the EPD then declares real maintenance carbon (B2) across that life, which is why the use stage appears in the modules rather than being quietly omitted.
≈1 installation over a 60-year building study period.
