Lignacite ECO 70

A 7.3 N/mm² loadbearing block with at least 70% recycled and secondary aggregate, made in Suffolk by a family firm that has been putting biomass in its mix since the 1940s — "Lignacite" is lignum plus aggregate. The recycled content is the headline, but the declaration tells a subtler story: the block holds 2.96 kg of biogenic carbon per m² of wall, takes up CO₂ by carbonation in use (a declared negative B1), and hands the biogenic store back if the block is crushed and the wood content oxidised at end of life. Its declared A1–A3 is marginally HIGHER than ECO 50’s (6.81 vs 6.50 kgCO2e/m²): more recycled aggregate does not automatically mean less carbon, and the two declarations are recorded as printed rather than ranked by their badges.

Lignacite

Recorded Carbon Result

6.81kgCO₂e/m²

A1–A3 GWP-total per m² of 100 mm wall (149 kg). The figure is net of 10.9 kgCO2e biogenic carbon held in the block (GWP-fossil A1–A3 is 17.7); carbonation adds a further declared B1 credit of -1.31 in use, and C3+C4 return most of the biogenic store (+11.55) if the block is crushed at end of life.

Indicator: GWP-total

A1–A3 covers raw-material supply, transport to manufacture and manufacturing. It is product-stage information, not a whole-life result.

End of life is the largest of the modules this EPD declares.

adds carbon stores or removes EPD scenario* reuse/recycling potential (D)
* EPD transport and installation scenario, not this project's. Module D shows potential impacts or benefits from reuse, recovery or recycling after the product's assessed life. It is reported separately and never added to A-C. Do not compare bar lengths between materials. Each chart may use a different scale and declared unit.

* A4/A5 are EPD scenarios, not project-specific results. Module D is outside the A–C system boundary and is not added to A–C. Module nomenclature follows BS EN 15978 / EN 15804. Declared values are suitable as inputs to a whole life carbon assessment under the RICS Professional Standard (2nd edition); this panel is not an assessment.

* Includes the EPD’s A4/A5 scenario assumptions, not project-specific transport or installation. This is the aggregation the proposed Part Z applies upfront limits to. The A1–A3 figure includes declared biogenic storage of -10.9 kgCO₂e; Part Z aggregates upfront carbon excluding sequestered carbon, which is the assessor's adjustment to make.

Service Life — the B4 Replacement Input

100 years · EPD reference service life

Reference service life of 100 years, declared in the EPD.

≈1 installation over a 60-year building study period.

B4 (replacement) follows the building, not the product: an assessor multiplies replacement cycles by project quantities. This record supplies the service life and does not compute B4.
