Dreadnought Machine Made Plain Tile

Dreadnought’s machine-made plain tile in eight Staffordshire clay colours, from the dark blue-grey Staffordshire Blue through the heathers and brindles to Plum Red. Most colours are offered smoothfaced or sandfaced. Dreadnought’s colours come from the mineral content of the Etruria Marl clay and from control of the kiln atmosphere rather than applied stains or coloured sands, so the colour is through the body and does not fade.

Carbon and evidence

Product Evidence

Evidence currently held for the Dreadnought Tiles product record.

Dreadnought Tiles

Recorded Carbon Result

182kgCO₂e/t

A1–A3 GWP-FOSSIL per tonne of clay product. The declaration also prints a GWP-total of 6.67, which is not recorded because it is physically impossible — its −176 biogenic credit is five orders of magnitude larger than the packaging carbon the declaration itself reports. Note too that this is a works-wide figure covering bricks, pavers and quarry tiles as well as roof tiles, not a roof-tile-specific one.

A1–A3 covers raw-material supply, transport to manufacture and manufacturing. It is product-stage information, not a whole-life result.

A WIDE grouped declaration: it covers Dreadnought Tiles AND Ketley Brick, spanning Class A engineering bricks, clay pavers, quarry tiles, clay roof tiles with fittings (BS EN 1304), brick slips and special shapes. The declaration's stated rationale is that "the environmental impacts per tonne are identical regardless of the final shape or size", so this is NOT a roof-tile-specific figure — it is one number for the whole works output. Manufacturer of record: Hinton Perry & Davenhill Ltd.

* A4/A5 are EPD scenarios, not project-specific results. Module nomenclature follows BS EN 15978 / EN 15804. Declared values are suitable as inputs to a whole life carbon assessment under the RICS Professional Standard (2nd edition); this panel is not an assessment.

Service Life — the B4 Replacement Input

150 years · EPD reference service life

≈1 installation over a 60-year building study period.

B4 (replacement) follows the building, not the product: an assessor multiplies replacement cycles by project quantities. This record supplies the service life and does not compute B4.
