British Steel Sections
Hot-rolled structural steel sections — universal beams and columns, channels and angles — the primary material for steel-framed buildings, made in Scunthorpe. High embodied carbon at the product stage (blast-furnace route). Steel is recyclable, and the EPD assesses that future benefit as module D - a scenario outside the A-C boundary that depends on the eventual recovery route, not a credit against the product stage.

Carbon and evidence
Product Evidence
Evidence currently held for the British Steel product record.
Recorded Carbon Result
A1–A3 GWP per tonne (= 2.45 kgCO2e/kg), per EPD; module D credits recyclability
A1–A3 covers raw-material supply, transport to manufacture and manufacturing. It is product-stage information, not a whole-life result.
Historical result from an expired EPD. It is retained for transparency, but it must not be used for product comparison until a valid replacement is recorded.

Third-party verified (Olivier Muller, PwC). Blast-furnace route → high A1–A3 (2.45 kgCO2e/kg); module D (−1600 kgCO2e/tonne) credits 100% recyclability. At end of stated validity (31 Jul 2026); British Steel granted extensions (final Apr 2026) while an updated EPD is completed — seek the refreshed EPD before quoting.

Comparison Status
This result should be displayed for information only and not ranked against another product.
- • The PCR and version are missing.
- • The EPD is expired.
- • The GWP indicator is missing.
- • The carbon result is not linked to an evidence source.
- • The EPD is not linked to an evidence source.
Evidence Gaps
- •The recorded EPD is expired and is retained as historical evidence only.
- •1 sustainability claim is withheld because exact public evidence is not mapped.
- •1 certification is withheld because exact public evidence is not mapped.
Design & Specification Notes
Qualitative notes for early design discussion. Not product-specific EPD evidence, and not a basis for numerical comparison.
Hot-rolled structural steel sections — universal beams and columns, channels and angles — the primary material for steel-framed buildings, made in Scunthorpe.
Typical Uses
- •Primary frame
- •Long-span elements
- •Load-bearing supports
Key Performance
High load-bearing capacity for primary frame.
Specification Actions
- •Confirm the current EPD covers the selected steel product and manufacturing route.
- •Verify recycled content and the steel manufacturing route with supplier evidence.
- •Calculate transport distances for primary materials.
Indicative Health & Indoor Air
Inert structural steel; standard hot-works and fume controls when cutting/welding on site.
