ECOPact Low-Carbon Concrete

Lower-carbon structural ready-mix concrete (C32/40, CEM IIIA — high ground granulated blast-furnace slag) for in-situ frames, slabs and foundations. Over 30% less embodied carbon than a standard CEM I mix, on the manufacturer’s industry base levels, and the concrete slowly reabsorbs CO₂ (carbonation) in use. Holcim UK’s ECOPact range, formerly Aggregate Industries.

Third-party verified

Externally (third-party) verified IBU EPD; UK-produced (Whetstone plant). Low-carbon via high GGBS content (CEM IIIA) — ~40% below a standard CEM I C32/40. B1 = −2.70 kgCO2e/m³ is in-use carbonation (concrete reabsorbing CO₂). EPD is for unreinforced concrete; add reinforcement separately.

* A4/A5 are EPD scenarios, not project-specific results. Module D is outside the A–C system boundary and is not added to A–C. Module nomenclature follows BS EN 15978 / EN 15804. Declared values are suitable as inputs to a whole life carbon assessment under the RICS Professional Standard (2nd edition); this panel is not an assessment.

Service Life — the B4 Replacement Input

50 years · EPD reference service life

≈2 installations over a 60-year building study period.

B4 (replacement) follows the building, not the product: an assessor multiplies replacement cycles by project quantities. This record supplies the service life and does not compute B4.

Sourced Product Claims

  • Over 30% lower CO2 than standard CEM I concrete; the ECOPact range spans 30-100% lower depending on gradeManufacturer declaredSource

1 claim and 1 certification are held in the staging record but not presented as product evidence because an exact public source has not yet been mapped.

Comparison Status

This result should be displayed for information only and not ranked against another product.

  • • The PCR and version are missing.
  • • The GWP indicator is missing.
  • • The carbon result is not linked to an evidence source.
  • • The EPD is not linked to an evidence source.

Evidence Gaps

  • 1 sustainability claim is withheld because exact public evidence is not mapped.
  • 1 certification is withheld because exact public evidence is not mapped.

Design & Specification Notes

Qualitative notes for early design discussion. Not product-specific EPD evidence, and not a basis for numerical comparison.

Typical Uses

  • Primary frame
  • Long-span elements
  • Load-bearing supports

Key Performance

High load-bearing capacity for primary frame.

Specification Actions

  • Specify GGBS/PFA cement replacement (target: 50%+ replacement).
  • Request EPD showing embodied carbon per m3.
  • Calculate transport distances for primary materials.

Indicative Health & Indoor Air

low Risk

Wet concrete is alkaline/irritant — standard PPE when placing; inert once cured.
